I’ve only today listened to the new Strokes album and that’s OK. I don’t need to be on top of everything anymore, not even bands I used to absolutely adore. 19-year-old-me would hate me but that’s OK too. She had to compensate for things I’ve made peace with today.

As for Comedown Machine, it’s less bad than Angles, I think, but it’s still not great. Julian needs to dirty up his voice again.

ONE WAY TRIGGER - THE STROKES

you asked me to stay… you asked me to stay

This is not what I meant when I asked for the return of dirty rock’n’roll by dumbsmart prettyboys.

I know you hate to be impressed with someone else (other than yourself)
But you know trying to hold back on being an asshole helps

Waaaait, I’m not gonna give you a break

There is a time when we all fail,
some people take it pretty well,
some take it all out on themselves,
some they just take it out on friends,
oh everybody plays the game,
and if you don’t you’re called insane

I’ll try anything once, The Strokes

remember when this was released as ‘demo version of you only live once’ and you were like “what what what, how can such a beautiful, heartbreaking song be turned into such a fun, clever song? music! how does it even work? gawd, nick, you’re the prettiest boy in the world.”? remember? nick valensi is still the prettiest boy in the world, by the way.

Oh hey, it’s my favourite frontman from the 90s and my favourite frontman from the 00s (and his band) covering a song by a band… I wanted to check out years ago.

Well this is… mellow. I like it though, which means this is the first new Strokes song I like at first listen. I was starting to fear that I wouldn’t really like it and would have to comfort myself with the fact that Nick is still dreamy.
